It is not this film’s job to explain the appeal of new school punk to cranky old punks. However, that elusive bridge between the schools does not appear in Gridlocked: On Tour with The Briggs. I noticed all the band members were wearing t-shirts of very old school punk outfits, namely The Boys, The Dead Boys, and The Toy Dolls, who were the Green Day of Oi! back in the day with “Nellie the Elephant,” one of the highest-charting Oi! singles in history. I would have also loved some more insight into the influences of old-school punk on new. I am curious about the story behind the band’s name and how it fits into the pirate imagery of their skull and anchor logo. Those looking for further history into their origins or past heyday will not find it here. The film will be treasured by fans of The Briggs as well as fans of new school punk. Further evidence that you are never too old to rock. I couldn’t tell any difference between their energy on these shows versus the one I saw years earlier. And what a show! Age has not slowed these guys down.
Instead of young gods at play, we are presented with exhausted people that spend endless hours working to reach that moment when the music is unleashed.

But once offstage, they turn into normal guys, with a refreshing lack of posturing or self-importance. Sometimes The Briggs jump around so much during their shows it seems like someone turned the gravity off. It is this revealing of the mundane skeleton of rock tours that makes the live scenes explode. The movie boasts an amazing cast in addition to Purcell and Hackman which includes Stephen Lang, Trish Stratus, Danny Glover, Vinnie Jones, and Saul Rubinek.Gridlocked: On Tour with The Briggs lets us in on the punk rockers talking to their children on the phone… a lot. The film centered on two characters: Brody Walker, a notorious, trouble-making celebrity (weve seen a lot of those), and David Hendrix, the leader of a group. Still, Ungar and Robol do great work in balancing the two, though a small amount of the jokes fell flat for me. The film may deliver plenty of laughs, but the violence and action does get gruesome and realistic. This highly lovable throwback by writer/director Allan Ungar, who co-wrote the film with Rob Robol, wears its obvious influences on its sleeves, but has enough original and modern charms of its own. The gruff, no-nonsense Hendrix and the smart-ass, wise cracking Walker definitely butt heads, but are forced to put their differences aside when a criminal attack occurs at a police station. After a recent run-in with law, Walker has been sentenced to ride along with a police officer instead of doing real time in prison. The film stars Dominic Purcell as David Hendrix, a hardcore, highly skilled detective forced to assist Hollywood actor Brody Walker (Cody Hackman) with his court-mandated sentence.
Fans of that era/genre will no doubt love this movie and all that it has to offer. As a fan of 80s and 90s action movies, I had an absolute blast with this movie.
